The John Deere employees, who are members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, voted overwhelmingly to agree on a deal with the firm on Wednesday that will see them receive an immediate 10 percent pay rise. The strike lasted for five weeks and was putting the firm’s operations in serious difficulty, with software engineers and computer programmers reassigned to manufacturing plants. John Deere is the brand name of Deere & Company, which most famously manufactures agricultural machinery as well as heavy equipment, forestry machinery and other products....

The poll, released by Suffolk University in partnership with The Boston Globe and WBZ, found 42 percent of polled Massachusetts voters favored Kennedy ahead of the state’s Democratic primary. Sen. Markey was backed by 36 percent of voters surveyed for the poll published on Sunday night, putting him just outside its margin of error going into the September 1 contest. Rep. Manchin, a moderate Democrat who has faced heavy criticism for his opposition to filibuster reform and certain progressive policies and legislation, made the remarks Thursday evening during an interview with CNN’s Manu Raju. Democratic leaders sought to get Manchin, a moderate Democrat representing West Virginia, to support the bill. But on Sunday, he announced he would not vote in its support while appearing on Fox News Sunday. “If I can’t go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it....
