Joseph Maldonado-Passage, who is more commonly known as Joe Exotic, has filed a motion in a federal court not to delay his resentencing for treatment. He announced that he had prostate cancer in November and was subsequently transferred to a federal medical center in Butner, North Carolina. He was originally held at a federal medical facility in Fort Worth, Texas. It is unclear where his resentencing will take place....

“He’s always isolating himself to go sit on the bench, never talking to anybody after a big play, bad play, whatever it is. Teammates figure out how to create this core that we all get along. During a speech in California on Friday, the president said that coal plants cost too much money and that his administration will “be shutting these plants down all across America” and have “wind and solar” energy instead. “No one is building new coal plants because they can’t rely on it, even if they have all the coal guaranteed for the rest of their existence of the plant,” the president added....

Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer rolled out the $3.5 trillion proposal in mid-July. The bill is part of the White House’s two-track strategy, with a smaller roughly $1 trillion bipartisan traditional infrastructure bill moving forward in the Senate. Republican lawmakers balked at the “care economy” proposals Biden wanted to include, leading Democrats to put forward a separate and larger budget reconciliation package in hopes of passing it without any GOP support....

Manchin, one of the more moderate Democrats in Congress, is still a key holdout for the Biden administration priority after months of negotiations. With unanimous GOP opposition expected, Democrats would not be able to lose even one vote in the 50-50 Senate to pass the measure. The House has already passed a version of the package. Manchin initially voiced his opposition on December 19 because of concerns over the measure’s potential effect on inflation and federal deficits....
