The latest news from the Biden administration has left many perplexed about the legal threats being wielded in both Biden and former President Donald Trump’s directions and raised questions about whether one indictment should trigger the other. August’s bombshell FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago had drawn widespread criticism of Trump, and now that Biden is in the hot seat, his team is making every effort to distinguish the differences between the two cases....

Two Foreign Affairs articles captured the mood. In one in 2019, Kurt Campbell and Jake Sullivan—now President Joe Biden’s Asia czar and his national security adviser, respectively—declared the era of engagement with China was over. In its place would come competition and coexistence, and America would need to establish favorable terms in key domains—military, economic, political and global governance. In another in 2020, Biden sent a similar message from the campaign trail....

And Joe Biden—a frequent target of his political rivals for his alleged weakness on the world stage—was likely the one most responsible for defusing it. On social media, users quickly made the subject of “World War 3” a trending topic. News organizations quickly filed explainer pieces outlining what it would take for NATO to invoke Article 5 of its charter, drawing Poland and its allies into the war. And around the world, the public fixated on prior statements made by President Joe Biden that the United States would fight to defend “every inch” of NATO soil....

There is usually a surge of migrants in spring and this year there have been boosted numbers. The U.S. is on course to see a 20-year high of people arriving at the southern border. Republicans have branded the situation a crisis, a term the administration has avoided, and attributed it to Biden’s stances on immigration. “This entire border crisis has been created simply by Joe Biden’s actions and words,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) tweeted on Sunday....

Trump supporters rioting over the president’s election loss to Biden were met with relatively mild resistance from law enforcement when breaching the Capitol building. Many in the largely white mob were allowed to simply leave the area after taking part in the violent insurrection. Biden said “we all know” that law enforcement would have taken a different tact with protesters supporting the movement for racial justice. “Not only did we see the failure to protect one of the three branches of our government, we also saw a clear failure to carry out equal justice,” Biden said from Wilmington, Delaware....

Biden and Putin met in Geneva this week to discuss topics ranging from ransomware to human rights concerns at what leaders have agreed to be a “low point” in the U.S.-Russia relationship. While the two did not hold a joint press conference after their meeting as Trump and Putin did when they met in Helsinki three years ago, Biden made his own remarks to reporters on the “productive” meeting....

Liberals and conservatives alike noted it took just over a month between Biden taking office and launching his first strike on Iranian-backed forces in the Middle East. Biden is also overseeing continued anti-terrorism operations against Islamic State militants and other groups in the Middle East and Africa. The airstrikes in Syria targeted Iranian-linked Iraqi militias—among them Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada—killed at least 17 according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights....

“It’s bull***t,” Manchin told reporters at the Capitol just after the Mother Jones report appeared online. Citing unnamed sources, Mother Jones reported Manchin “has told associates that he is considering leaving the Democratic Party if President Joe Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill do not agree to his demand to cut the size of the social infrastructure bill from $3.5 trillion to $1.75 trillion.” Biden has been pushing a massive expansion of the social safety net, dubbed the “Build Back Better” agenda, for several weeks but it’s been stalled among Democratic infighting and Manchin’s opposition....

The comedian and podcast host shared a scrapped stand-up bit he’d written about the situation on The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE).
