Polling has been sparse thus far, but what there is shows a majority of Californians don’t want Newsom recalled. Those who do support his removal from office rank former Newsom gubernatorial challenger John Cox and former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer as among the top candidates. But each politician received less than a third of voter support among respondents in April polls. conducted by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies (Berkeley IGS) and SurveyUSA....

Geddert was discovered dead in the Michigan city of Grand Ledge, according to Michigan Attorney General spokeswoman Kelly Rossman-McKinney. “My office has been notified that the body of John Geddert was found late this afternoon after taking his own life. This is a tragic end to a tragic story for everyone involved,” State Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement released Thursday afternoon. The 63-year-old coach had been accused of human trafficking, criminal sexual conduct, forced labor resulting in injury, racketeering and lying to police, according to a Michigan state criminal complaint filed in Eaton County....

The poll by the Senate Opportunity Fund asked respondents which president they believed had the best first year. Biden was tied for third place with former President George W. Bush. The survey is the latest poll to find Americans take a dim view of President Biden, and also showed Republicans slightly ahead of Democrats on the generic congressional ballot ahead of the midterm elections this November. When respondents were asked which of the last four presidents had the best first year in office, just 12 percent chose Biden....

Republicans cast the midterms as a referendum on Biden’s tenure as president. His approval rating took a hit during the summer, as high inflation and recession concerns fueled criticism of his economic policies. Republicans banked on high opposition to Biden to ride a “red wave” into congressional majorities during Tuesday’s midterms. But that “red wave” never materialized despite Biden’s low approval numbers. Democrats held onto control of the U.S. Senate—and could even expand their majority depending on the results of Georgia’s runoff election—and appear poised to lose only a handful of seats in the House....

According to FiveThirtyEight’s forecast, Biden currently has an 11 in 12, or 91 percent, chance of winning a majority. The odds are staggering compared to those predicted for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Biden’s only major rival in the race after other primary contenders dropped out following the former vice president’s Super Tuesday success. For Sanders, FiveThirtyEight predicted a 1 in 100, or 1 percent, chance of securing a majority in the Democratic primary race....

An internal GOP poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, an opinion research firm, was obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and showed that “the presidential race in Georgia is a dead heat.” “Currently, 46 percent of Georgia voters are backing President Donald Trump, while 47 percent are supporting Joe Biden. Five percent of voters are undecided and 2 percent chose not to answer. The president does have an edge on intensity, with 43 percent of voters saying they will definitely vote for him, and 39 percent saying they will definitely vote for Biden,” Public Opinion Strategies stated in the poll....

Sullivan said that his initial focus of work on the National Security Council (NSC) would be to make public health a national security priority by putting a foot down with the growing world power. “The way you actually make sure this doesn’t happen again is by sending a very clear message to China that the United States and the rest of the world will not accept a circumstance in which we do not have an effective public health surveillance system, with an international dimension, in China and across the world going forward,” Sullivan said in an interview with Politico....

Conservative commentators have been quick to call out the word and ask why it has replaced the political pursuit for “equality.” While equality means that everyone gets the same resources from government, regardless of their circumstances, equity seeks to address systemic and historical imbalances within society by distributing resources depending on individual need....

The president traveled to the Peach State on Thursday and visited with former President Jimmy Carter before attending a drive-in rally to mark his first 100 days in office and promote the $4 trillion spending proposals that he outlined one day earlier during an address to Congress. Minutes after Biden’s speech began, a small group of protesters interrupted it by shouting demands that he “end detention now” and “abolish” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)....

Trump revealed on Friday that he had tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in a three-day-long stay at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment. Criticized by some for erratic usage of face masks during the pandemic, Trump returned to the White House Monday. Before entering the White House, Trump paused and removed his face mask for a photo opportunity. Also on Monday night, Biden told town hall moderator Lester Holt that he was not concerned about contracting the disease because he was “fastidious” about social distancing....

Biden addressed the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, declaring that Trump and Senate Republicans should respect her final wish that her successor not be put in place until after the November 3 election. The former vice president said if he wins the election, it should be his nominee which the Senate considers to replace Ginsburg’s vacant seat. “If I win this election, President Trump’s nominee should be withdrawn and, as the new president, I should be the one to nominate Justice Ginsburg’s successor,” Biden said....

Reza Pahlavi, who now lives in the U.S., from where he advocates for Iran’s transition to a liberal democracy, told Newsweek in an interview that it would be a “grave error” for Biden to rejoin the JCPOA, even though its supporters and signatories argue it is the only realistic way to restrain Tehran’s nuclear program. Biden and his top officials have been clear in their desire to resurrect the agreement....

In case you didn’t know.. The drama started when Burns’ teammate Alex Ross was dismissed for obstructing the field during a BBL match between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes. Ross was sprinting for a second run at the Gabba just as the throw arrived from the deep mid-wicket fielder Jofra Archer. In an attempt to save himself from being struck by the ball, Ross changed course while running. The ball then hit his bat and disturbed the bails....

Hendrick has 10 wins between its four drivers, with Kasey Kahne finally getting to victory lane last week at Atlanta. Penske Racing has six wins with just two drivers, with both Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski winning three races each. Of the top six spots in the Sprint Cup standings, five of them are held by Hendrick or Penske drivers. The lone exception? Joe Gibbs Racing’s Matt Kenseth. The House of Representatives passed the stimulus package last week with weekly federal unemployment payments set at $400, but moderate Democrats like Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia have voiced preferences to lower the weekly payments to $300. Reports by Politico and The Wall Street Journal said Senate Democrats agreed to a deal to make that reduction official during a Senate floor debate on Friday. The agreement gives moderate Democrats like Manchin and Delaware Senator Tom Carper, who is expected to introduce the reduction in an amendment on Friday, a win, as debate over the bill moves forward....

Hailed by progressives as the most important piece of voting rights legislation since the Voting Rights Act of 1965, HR-1, or the For the People Act, is being met with pushback from Manchin and several others for its attempts to reduce the 60-vote threshold on the filibuster to 51. He called on Democrats to strike a balance rather than usher in a historic reform package along party lines. “Even though our democratic institutions have survived foreign interference and a violent attempt to enter the United States Capitol during the counting of Electoral College votes, America’s declining trust in the government and each other makes it harder to solve key problems,” Manchin said in the statement....
